‘Redes’ is a multidisciplinary collective formed in Mexico City in 2024. The group brings together visual artist LVSTVCRV, textile artist Johana Torres, musician/sound artist Nnux, and choreographer Azhareel Sierra, who collectively create multidisciplinary works involving installation, performance, digital art, and sound, blurring the boundaries between various disciplines and creating narratives that are experienced multi-dimensionally.
Currently, ‘Redes’ is presenting their self-titled piece, which deals with the issue of changing dynamics in relation to power, violence, and transformation. What is power? Is power closely tied to violence, or can we disconnect the two? How can we question power itself and separate it from a hierarchical context? How can we build more collaborative societies that don’t depend on violence and hierarchy? In what ways, in our most intimate relationships, do we replicate these actions? Are we, as individuals, replicating power dynamics without even questioning them? What do we do with power when we have access to it?
The piece is divided into two different phases: process phase and performance phase. In the process phase, the audience is invited to participate in the process, hand-knitting the net together after receiving simple instructions; as they knit together they’re having a collective conversation about what power is and about how it can be transformed. Then, in the performance phase, the net that was knitted collectively is used as scenography for a performance art piece involving two performers, video mapping, and sound.
‘Redes’ was co-commissioned by Redcat (LA) and Laboratorio Arte Alameda (CDMX).
